Double Chocolate Protein Squares

Double Chocolate Protein Squares

Easy, No-Bake Snack

I am always trying to find recipes that are quick and easy to make but also taste delicious. These protein squares are the perfect thing. They are pretty low in sugar and have healthy fats from the almond butter and almond flour. Obviously, the protein powder will help keep you fuller for longer.

Protein bars can get super expensive these days, so I love making them myself. If you like the texture of protein bars, you’ll love the texture of these. In my opinion, the texture is almost identical.

There are so many variations you could make with this recipe. You could add different protein powder, different add-ins such as nuts or seeds, you could add extracts, the list goes on.

Almond butter: any nut or seed butter will work. Be sure it is on the runnier side rather than super chunky.

Maple syrup: any liquid sweetener will work. I prefer using maple syrup. Agave, honey, date syrup, etc. will all work.

Protein powder: I used a plant-based chocolate protein powder. Any protein powder will work. If you use a whey based one, it might affect the texture so add water as needed.

Cacao powder: I prefer cacao powder; however, you can use unsweetened cocoa powder as well. If you prefer vanilla, you can omit this, but you will need to add more almond flour or protein powder.

Almond flour: I like using almond flour to keep these grain-free. You could replace the almond flour with more protein powder, coconut flour, or oat flour. The measurements WILL be DIFFERENT. I recommend just adding slowly and stirring as you go until you reach a dough texture.

Chocolate chips: any chocolate chips will work vegan or not. You could also melt a chocolate bar. White chocolate also tastes delicious with this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • Almond butter

  • Maple syrup

  • Protein powder

  • Cacao powder

  • Almond flour

  • Chocolate chips

Recipe:

  • ½ cup almond butter

  • ¼ cup maple syrup

  • 2/3 cup protein powder

  • 3 tablespoons cacao powder

  • 1/3 cup almond flour

  • 1-2 cups chocolate chips

Directions:

1.    Line a baking pan with parchment paper or spray with cooking spray.

2.    In a bowl combine the almond butter and maple syrup. Add in the protein powder, cacao powder, and almond flour. Stir well to combine. Once a dough is formed it is ready to be transferred.

3.    Transfer to baking pan and place in the freezer for an hour.

4.    After the hour, slice into squares. Melt the chocolate and drop each square into the chocolate until they are all coated.

5.    Place back in the freezer to allow the chocolate to harden.

Be sure to store the squares in the refrigerator or freezer. The squares should last up to 5 days in the refrigerator. You can prep a large batch and store in the freezer. It should last for a month minimum. I prefer storing mine in the freezer for an ice cream bar type dessert.
